Florida’s Senate Commerce Committee voted 7-1 to allow a $.06 tax on every bottle of water purchased in Florida. Great quote to represent this vote “This is not a tax. It’s a surcharge to save the environment.” So true! It is estimated that big water companies pull 3.6million gallons of water DAILY from Florida’s resources.

Wow, way to show faith in your own city water. Again, it is important to lead by example. This has to stop, government money should not be spent on unnecessary items such as BOTTLED WATER unless it is an emergency…and then it wouldn’t be unnecessary! I wonder if the Colorado Water Authority has bottles of water in their office….

Members from the Ban the Bottle crew had the opportunity to visit the 2010 Green California Summit and Expo this week in Sacramento. The annual Green California Summit has become an essential resource to support efforts to meet the challenges of managing energy and water resources, and to create clean and sustainable communities throughout the state of California.
The event featured a large expo with a ton of innovative green products to peruse. I’ve compiled a list my top 4 innovative green products from the Green California Summit.
Swann Electric Bikes produces the BionX kit which provides bikes an “electric assist”. This means the rider still has to actually peddle to trigger the electric-assist. Today, Canadians across the country are participating in Canada’s first Bottled Water Free Day. Organised by the Canadian Federation of Students, Sierra Youth Coalition and the Polaris Institute, Bottled Water Free Day is intended to raise awareness about the negative impacts of bottled water.
“Across the country students are standing up against the wasteful bottled water industry,” said Noah Stewart, National Deputy Chairperson of the Canadian Federation of Students. “Tired of having to pay Coca Cola, Pepsi or Nestle for a drink of water we’re calling on schools to ban the sale of bottled water and re-invest in water fountains.”
Highlights of Bottled Water Free Day include:
“The success of Bottled Water Free Day shows the strength of the back-to-the-tap movement,” says Elly Adeland, Water and Energy Campaigner for the Polaris Institute. “Bottled Water sales in North America have plummeted and across the country Canadians are pledging to kick the bottle – clearly the tap is making a comeback.”
Bottled Water Free Day is taking place after years of escalating bottled water backlash in Canada. To date 76 municipalities, 4 municipal associations (including the Federation of Canadian Municipalities), 8 school boards, 5 university campuses and countless businesses have implemented restrictions on bottled water.

I love water. I also enjoy sleeping. But I’ve always wondered why I don’t usually need water during the seven hours I sleep at night.
