Retap: Rethink water.

Our team continues to promote the environment by advocating bans on one-time-use plastic water bottles. We believe that tap water tastes great and by eliminating plastic bottles in schools, offices and public areas, we can eliminate unneeded waste in landfills. We advocate the use of reusable bottles and in doing so, many companies that have the same initiatives reach out to us and explain their approach towards helping the environment.

Recently, we were contacted by a group called Retap which stands for refilling with tap water. Based in Denmark, this company promotes drinking tap water and avoiding the use of one-use plastic bottled water. To spearhead these goals Robert Hjernberg and Lars Perterson, the founders of Retap, released the innovative Retap Bottle which received the Red Dot Design award in 2011 and the Good Design award in 2012.

Sustainability is a key factor in the design of this bottle. Many characteristics prove this true:

Borosilicate Glass: The Retap glass is made of Borosilicate glass which has a low thermal expansion coefficient. This reduces material stresses caused by temperature variances, thus making it more resistant to breaking.

Thermoplastic-elastomer: The Retap lids are made of thermoplastic-elastomer, a class of polymers. This material is considered recyclable and contains no BPA (bisphenol A), a harmful product commonly found in plastics.

As mentioned earlier, our team was fortunate enough to receive samples of the Retap bottle to see if our thoughts agreed with thousands of others. Here are some comments from the team:

“I enjoyed using this bottle. The design was contemporary and clean looking. Thus, I think it made the tap water inside taste better.” -JB

“The glass bottle seems to keep the water fresher and is easy to clean. The top closure keeps the water from leaking. I was extremely pleased with the companies initiatives and the bottle itself.” -TB

“I love the shape of the bottle, the design is classically simple. The bottle also fits nicely in the refrigerator, giving me cold, clean water to drink.” -LP

“I enjoyed learning about the companies green initiatives and how they lined up with Ban the Bottle’s in that we are both working towards the reduction of one-use plastic bottled water and helping to provide better, more eco-friendly alternatives. The bottle itself has a sleek design which is attractive to the consumers eye.  In addition, it is easy to drink from and the uniqueness is one of a kind.” -HE

The Ban the Bottle team would like to thank Retap for reaching out to us and sharing their goals and objectives towards a cleaner, healthier environment. Check out Retap’s mission here.
