Happy World Oceans Day!
Healthy Oceans, Healthy Planet
Healthy oceans, healthy planet is this year’s theme for World Oceans Day. This year’s theme was made in an effort to stop plastic pollution. World Oceans Day is recognized by the United Nations as a day of celebration and action.
How can you get your community involved? World Oceans Day suggests:
Create a community art piece
Gather neighbors, friends, family and a group of cheerful individuals and create a piece of art! Create a mural that represents your community’s promise to stop plastic pollution.
Clean up your favorite spot
Have some fun under the sun by the water. Make this an outing event at the beach or river with friends, family and neighbors. Grab some trash bags and make a difference.
Show a fantastic film
“The Story of Bottled Water” is a great mini-film that will help motivate everyone in your community to get involved in this year’s theme. Be clear on the facts of how bottled water companies get us to buy their water by scaring us, seducing us, and misleading us into buying their product. Click the picture below to view the full video. Spread the word about sustainable seafood
Host a dinner party! Feature locally caught or farmed seafood and other local foods. Try these yummy seafood recipes at your dinner party.
Wear blue, tell two
Get a conversation stared about World Oceans Day and ocean conservation. How? Wear a noticeable article of clothing and ask people if they know why! Share two facts about the ocean, or two ways that they can help protect it and its wildlife. Then ask them to pass it on.
Hope your World Oceans Day celebration is fun-filled and motivates you and your community to keep our oceans clean!
